MASHANTUCKET, CT – As the weather starts to cool down,Foxwoods Resort Casino is pleased to announce its Bingo Hall, one of the largest in the world, will reopen on Thursday, September 3. Following positive feedback and business levels, as well as extensive consultation with experts, the Bingo Hall will open with several modifications in place to ensure team members and guest safety.
The Bingo Hall, which will operate at a capacity reduced by 70 percent (950 total participants), will be open seven days a week with morning and evening sessions. The morning sessions will begin one hour earlier at 9:30 a.m. to provide additional cleaning time between sessions, with the evening sessions beginning at 6:30 p.m. The duration of each session will be reduced by 40 percent, spanning two hours and 30 minutes.
The Bingo Hall has been modified to ensure appropriate social distancing of at least 6-10 feet between players. The Bingo Hall has been divided into 14 'Zones.' After each Bingo session, participants are asked to remain seated until the caller announces the Zone where you are seated for departure. Guests are also asked not to change their seats during play.
All playing surfaces and video tablets will be regularly cleaned and disinfected according to strict sanitizing protocols. More than 20 sanitizing stations will be added in the hall and at all transaction booths, and the circulation of fresh air will be increased during session times. Masks are required at all times, and smoking is not allowed.
To reduce the number and frequency of interactions between guests and team members, midweek games will be reduced to a $10-$300 game and weekend games will be reduced to a $15-$700 game. Outside food and drink are not allowed but pre-packaged snacks and drinks, including bottled water, will be available from a kiosk for guests to purchase and enjoy.
'The process of reopening certain attractions at the resort takes a lot of teamwork and planning,' said Dr. Setu Vora, Chief Medical Officer of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. 'We have virtual meetings of the Safety Response Team almost on a daily basis where we go through pandemic updates at a national, regional, state, and county level down to what we're noticing in our own microsystems; always relying on the latest science. When the team was first reviewing Bingo, the decision was made not to reopen at that time even though Connecticut statistics were favorable.'
'We're excited to continue seeing the reopening of the various activities at the resort after collaboration with Dr. Setu Vora, the Gaming Commission and other experts,' said Jason Guyot, Foxwoods' Interim CEO & SVP of Resort Operations. The History of Foxwoods
The story of how the casino came into existence started when The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe gained legal control of their reservation and finally received federal recognition by an act of Congress in 1983, which overrode a veto by President Ronald Reagan.
The tribe would start getting the ball rolling for the starting development stages, and by 1986, Foxwoods would be founded as a high-stakes bingo hall on the reservation.
The tribe partnered with Lim Goh Tong, a Chinese Malaysian man who founded the only legal casino in Malaysia, for financing the necessary cost that would finally turn Foxwoods into a full casino.
In 1992, changes were coming. A bingo hall would no longer be the only thing that the casino had in its name. In 1997, the associated deluxe Grand Pequot Tower was opened for business.
The tribe added casino table games, followed by even more additional slot machines in 1993. Also in 1993, G. Michael Brown became the chairman of Foxwood Resort Casino.
After an agreement between the tribe and the state of Connecticut, the tribe would agree to give 25% of all of their revenue from the slot machines to the state.
As of 2007, that total sum amounts to be around $200 million per year. By the end of June 2008, the 6,300 slots at Foxwoods had generated more than $9.1 billion.
In 1995, Foxwoods added a poker room as well as a high-limit 30 table game area. Because of the casino being located on sacred and sovereign Mashantucket Pequot land, it is not required to comply with the rest of the state's laws regarding smoking.
